Capturing the Souls of Black Folk- Javan's Photography

Updated: Jun 27, 2020

The art of expression through profession is our slogan, and we brand ourselves upon showing the souls of the Black image --in every retrospect. We asked Javan to articulate how does his artwork express his soul, this is what he has to say.

I will start this by saying that my art IS my soul. Everything that I am is art! So when I’m painting on a canvas, sketching in my sketchbook, just doodling randomly, drawing people at a train station, it all symbolizes the art in my soul and all these things are me. Everything that I produce is a piece of me! the pens, pencils, and paint brushes I use are like my limbs that I move with fluidity. There isn’t anything that I’ve produced where I didn’t love it! Stick figures, the thousands of random eyes, etc. I may have had some pieces of art work that annoyed me because I couldn't exactly put on paper what I had envisioned, but it wasn’t a failure it just wasn’t right for THAT moment but who knows?! With that point, artist always come back and recreate once they become more skilled. So to love my art is to love myself. It tells people what I'm feeling in that very moment, or where I want to go, it tells people what I’ve watched that day or what I’d like to Eat. Art expresses my soul in EVERY WAY possible and that is how my art expresses my soul. <3
